Sturgis, South Dakota

Sturgis has a population of 6600 and yet this years annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was attended by over 400,000 people. We arrived two weeks after the rally in order to actually see the area and ride the Black Hills. What a great choice! We enjoyed the many historic roads and so much more including hiking, biking, and meeting new friends.

Scenic Motorcycle Routes:

1. If you had to pick a favorite ride in the Sturgis area it would have to be taking 14A through Deadwood, Lead, and Spearfish Canyon.

2. Taking the 385 through Strawberry Hill to Silver City, Johnson Siding, and back through Nemo is a great choice.

3. You can't visit this area without seeing the Buffalo Chip where the annual rally happens. The day we were there it was empty of bikes and people, but it still gives you an idea of just how extraordinary this event can be. of Interest:

Just pick a road and go… all of them an absolute blast!

Points of Interest:

1. Hike: The Devils Bathtub on Spearfish Canyon Road

2. Hike:  The Roughlock Falls near Spearfish Canyon Resort

3. Bike: The George S. Mickelson Trail is 109 miles long and contains more than 100 converted railroad bridges and 4 rock tunnels. We made it 37 miles on the e-bikes before running out of battery!

4. The D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery in Spearfish is the first fish hatchery in America and definitely with the visit.

Hiking with friends in Spearfish Canyon.
