Crater Lake - Oregons only National Park

John and I spent the last 36 years living in Southern Oregon and raising two sons. We have been fortunate to live in an area where you can hike in the hills, take your sons camping in any direction, or make it to the Oregon Coast before lunch. The seasonal weather patterns and central location to lakes, rivers, and mountains make this a "year round" stop for enjoying the outdoors.

We taught our youngest son to ride motorcycles while living in Southern Oregon. We never ran out of back roads and forest service roads to practice on. Be sure to pick up a Butler motorcycle map that shows the vast number of motorcycle routes in this truly beautiful state. It will keep you riding for days.

Scenic Motorcycle Routes:

Riding in Southern Oregon and Northern California is a place every motorcyclist needs to experience. Here is a list of John and my favorite rides:

1. Highway 199 to the Oregon Coast of course! The coastal views along with the curvy roads will never disappoint!

2. Greensprings Road to Howard Prairie and back through Dead Indian Memorial Road. Great curves, elevations, and views! (See added video)

3. Highway 238 through the Applegate ending in Grants Pass. An easy, enjoyable day ride.

4. And so many others:
-Bear Camp Road to Gold Beach
-Cow Creek Road from Glendale to Riddle
-Evans Creek to Azalea
-Indian Creek Road to Happy Camp, California
-HIghway 96 along the Klamath River to the Northern California Coast

Points of Interest:

1. Crater Lake  - The only National Park in the state of Oregon. You can enjoy a drive that takes you through the evergreens that follows the wild Rogue River and in the end be rewarded by one amazing view.

2. Ashland - Home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival

3. Jacksonville - A small town that combines the gentle ambiance of a historic town with a vibrant cultural scene including the Britt Music Festival.

4. Shady Cove - Located along the stunning Rogue River for the most memorable fishing and rafting you could ask for.

5. Lake of the Woods - A clear natural lake that welcomes visitors for summer... swimming, water skiing, camping, biking, and to top it off you get cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. A true family favorite!

6. Oregon Coast - The crisp ocean breezes, spectacular views, and a host of outdoor activities are just a few of the many reasons to visit the Oregon Coast.
