Salem, Oregon

Our ride to the Oregon Coast near Tillamook.

Salem, Oregon:

It was important to us that we spent time with family before leaving the state of Oregon. Spending a few weeks in the Willamette Valley reminded us just how beautiful the Northwest is. Salem abounds with bike paths and hiking trails and the breathtaking motorcycle rides to the northern coast are just some of the experiences we enjoyed in this area.

Points of Interest:

1. Minto Island Bridge bike ride

2. Evergreen Aviation Museum

3. Powerland Heritage Park - Antique Powerland

4. Oregon State Hospital Museum of Mental Health - Be sure to bring your discs to try your hand at the Disc Golf park located on the property!

5. Hike the 8 miles to see the 10 waterfalls at Silver Falls State Park.

6. Take photos at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn if you visit during the spring!

Biking over The Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge

Caroline’s first motorbike ride on a ferry: the Wheatland Ferry crossing the Willamette River.

Scenic Motorcycle Routes:

1. We rode Highway 22 from Salem to Tillamook. My first experience of  loading onto the Wheatland Ferry for the short ride across the Willamette River was memorable,  I am certain we smiled the rest of the day.

2. Traveling North on the US 101 to Astoria we crossed over the Astoria-Megler Bridge, the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. The journey from Oregon to Washington will take you over 4 miles and several minutes.

3. We finished with a delightful loop the from Salem to Silverton State Park and on to Detroit Lake. Enjoy the twists and turns as you follow the Santiam River.
