Pendelton, Oregon

Pendleton, Oregon:

We reserved a spot at the Wildhorse Casino after reading the "Smart RV Travel Guide" by Ron Sampson. We made time for the Pendleton City Tour, a burger at Hal's Hamburger (in business since 1952) and a visit to the Pendleton Round-up that has taken place every September since 1910.Located right on the water and surrounded by camellias, our luxurious accommodations made us feel like royalty.

Points of Interest:

1. The Pendleton Round Up - Certainly a historic location. Best visited in the fall during the Round-up but any season will be a glance at what this special area offers.

2. The City Tour - An underground tour of the old west city also known as "the entertainment capital of  Eastern Oregon."

3. Alexander's Artisan Chocolates on Main Street - If you want some incredibly delicious chocolate pleas visit this location. The quality and variety is beyond measure.

Scenic Motorcycle Routes:

Our first evening we unloaded the BMW's and headed to the town of Pendleton and found ourselves being inspired by the beauty of this area for all the rolling hills, green grass, and wide open spaces.

1. The curves of the wide open road from Ukiah to Hilgard was a breath of fresh air.

2. Ride the Old Pendleton River Road to Reith and Echo. We finished our loop by heading to Umatilla and then catching Highway 37 back to Pendleton. We stopped at Hat Rock State Park - the first distinctive landmark passed by the Lewis and Clark Expedition on their journey down the Columbia.  Be sure to include a stop at the McNary Dam for a quick photo or even a round of Disc Golf!

Try a little Disc Golf at the McNary Dam. Be watchful of the winds as it can be constant and strong!
