Hiking to Grinnell Glacier in Glacier National Park.

Kalispell, Montana

The first reservation we made for this entire trip was on January 2nd, the day Rocky Mountain Hi opened it's books. We had big plans for our 3 weeks in Kalispell. Hiking, biking, camping with friends, visiting family, and so much more! There is not enough room to write about all of our activities. We rode bikes in Big Fork, took the tram to the top of Big Mountain in Whitefish, toured the Conrad Mansion in Kalispell, and made room for "Moose's"... a must! The list of things to do is endless so be sure and plan enough time to enjoy this special area!

Points of Interest:

Hike: There are so many hikes to enjoy in this amazing area! Here are our favorites:

#1 Grinnell Glacier in the Many Glacier area. Getting to Iceberg Lake is over 6 miles out so start early and bring bear spray. With a late start and our first Grizzly Bear sighting we gladly headed back to the lodge early!

#2 Hidden Lake: Drive the Going to the Sun Highway and park at the lot of Logan's Pass. Enjoy the wildlife, the views, and the hike down to the lakes edge.

#3 Avalanche Lake: An easy hike that we began later in the day. We enjoyed hiking along the rivers edge on the way to this clear, blue glacial lake.

#4 Two Medicine: We actually caught the last boat of the day that crosses Two Medicine Lake. We enjoyed the views, fresh air, and spotting a moose standing at the waters edge.

There are some special places in the world. One of them is Kalispell, Montana. There are simply more hikes than one can explain, more beauty than these photos can ever show, and a great place to meet up with family and friends.

Scenic Motorcycle Routes:

1. 2021 was the start of requiring a day pass for the Going to the Sun Highway. Our only option was to arrive before the rangers did. Taking the motorcycles from Kalispell to Glacier National Park and the surrounding area was always the best option. We put hundreds of miles on the bikes while here. Grab a GNP map and hit all the roads! Oh, and get a pass!

2. Ride over the Hungry Horse Dam and follow the two track road up Lost Johnny Creek. The more riding we have done on this trip the better my two track skills became. We enjoyed the challenge of a dusty road and lunch break that followed. Be sure and pack bear spray!
