The Grand Shamrock Tour - Season 2

Every successful journey begins with it’s first steps, or in this case “Legs!” Last year on the Grand Shamrock Tour we had what we called the “Big Rocks.” You know... the locations that we pointed our RV towards in search of adventure.

Season 2 has been set. Our route begins in Santa Monica and ends this summer in Chicago. (Yes, we  know that this is backwards.)

So, about the Legs:

Legs are functional.

Legs are effective.

And most of all, Legs can be sexy... except the ones from Barstow to Needles!

We have researched, reserved, and prepared and are now positioned to begin that first Leg. Our plan has always been to “Hike, Bike, and Ride” in a creative and inspired way and for that  “The Mother Road abides!”  (Apologies to “The Dude.”)

The goal:

1. Ride our BMW GS motorcycles on every remaining section of Route 66.

2. Seek out the iconic fixtures of  the “Main Street of America.”

3. Connect with the people, the places they call home, and discover why it is special.

After a solid year plus on the road we know that even though our destination has been predetermined, the experience is yet to be.

And so it begins... as I write this tonight, John and I have packed the panniers (saddlebags), organized our maps, and are loaded up for the first of many Legs. Santa Monica and the Pacific awaits in the distance as does the Rancho Cucamonga Gas Station, the San Bernardino Wigwam Motel, and any kitsch “GIANT" (fruit, fixture, or man) along the way!

Kickstands are up… the first Leg is waiting... so let’s go!
