Amboy Crater National Landmark, California

Night photos in The Grand Shamrock at Amboy Crater.

Amboy Crater - BLM Overnight

What a pleasant surprise finding the Amboy Crater as a BLM dispersed camping location! Early April temperatures have already reached the 90’s here in the Arizona desert, but the afternoon winds kept the Grand Shamrock cool enough for the evening.  Our 4 mile trek up and around the crater was an easy hike with fabulous views of the now dry and desolate area. Yes, there are a few hikers here but this section of Route 66 has limited travelers. We had the place to ourselves so took time for a little nigh photography including the famous “Roy’s Motel” in the town of Amboy.

Scenic Motorcycle Routes:

Riding in the hot desert of California can be a challenge and yet complete joy. So few cars and not knowing what to expect around the next corner is all part of the experience.
